27 Sep Home Run Derbies Give Everyone A Chance To Be Champion!
Home Run Derbies at SLAMDiabetes WIFFLE Ball tournaments give fans and players alike a chance to be champion. Dozens of contestants sign up for their chance to Go Yard, sometimes against ex-big leaguers like Bill “Spaceman” Lee or Rick Miller. Even actor Luis Guzman has stepped into the batter’s box to swing for the fence.
The Home Run Derby is a popular midday event that occurs between tournament qualifying and playoff games. Anyone may sign up: Typical entries are $5-$10 for five outs, an out being anything that’s not a homer. It’s also a great time for young kids who aren’t playing in the tournament to get out on the field, shag fly balls and even take their shots at the derby title.
In 2014, some teams even started offering “match challenges” of $5 for every home run hit during a derby. At the 4th Annual Vermont Summer Classic 2014, the Cerner Slammers, Spruce Mortgage and EHR Perfect Pitch teams offered matches on 72 home runs, increasing the total fundraised to over $1,260!
At the next SLAMDiabetes tournament, make sure you enter the Home Run Derby for your chance to be champion!
