21 Feb Jeff Seward of Cerner Slammers: Vermont Summer Classic’s Top Fundraiser in 2014
Boundless energy. Big heart. Can-Do attitude. Speed around the bases. OK, maybe not the latter, but Jeff circled everyone in fundraising at the 4th Annual Vermont Summer Classic in 2014.
Jeff played for the Cerner Slammers last year, raised $2,300 and was 2014’s inaugural member of the 30/$30 club (gold wristbands and socks) for all tournaments.
“I’m in the health and wellness business and I learned more about Type 1 diabetes this year than I ever had before. It’s tough on kids, families, adults.
The tournament is so much fun, but raising money to get kids to diabetes camps or increase awareness about this awful disease are the real reasons we do this. There’s no secret to fundraising; I sent out emails several times before the tournament. It’s a few extra hours in the office or on the computer, but it’s so worth it.”
Jeff’s already got his team revved up for this year. “Our new name is The SLAMmers and our team goal is $10,000. I challenge all the other teams in every tournament to do that. It can be done and the results would be amazing!” Jeff wants to be the first one in a new club level, maybe 40/$40 or 50/$50 level!
Carrie Ashley of Eli’s Crusaders ($2,055) and Sean Fitzgerald of the Transitions Titans ($1,800) pushed Jeff right to the last day, as they finished with him as the top three fundraisers.
Congratulations to Jeff, Carrie and Sean!
